awards

To promote practical uses of agent technologies, we are fortunate to have two demonstration awards this year. Submittters of AAMAS-05 system demonstrations who want to take part additionally in the CONVIVIO award or the General Award competion should indicate this on their submission cover.
The criteria for applying for these awards are described below:

1. Award for the best demo of people-centred agent technologies

The CONVIVIO (www.convivionet.net) Award is for people-centred interactive design, and aims to promote technology development that empowers and simplifies people's everyday lives, by making their interaction with these technologies simpler, easier, more pleasant and fun. Designing new artifacts and services that enhance the quality of life and human interactions oftenly requires the involment of the target users early in the design process. In the context of AAMAS-05, CONVIVIO would like to honor an application of agent or multi-agent technology which most convingly demonstrates how the technology can:

  • increase social cohesion and inclusiveness, by putting people at the centre of technological change independent of age, abilities and gender
  • make knowledge selectively accessible to those who need it, avoiding the creation of information overflows and technological barriers
  • support communication and interaction, so that the identity of existing communities is enhanced and new communities emerge
  • help communities to open themselves up to the experiences of other communities
  • promote new interaction patterns, allowing for the exploration of living in mixed (virtual and physical) realities.

CONVIVIO is an European Commission-funded network of sixteen research institutions and companies from nine countries. For more details see www.convivionet.net.

2. General Demo Award

The General Award will be open to all applicants submitting a demonstration to AAMAS. The aim of the award is to identify:

  1. how agent technology can be applied effectively in a practical application,
  2. success/failure in using agents within a particular (or group of) application(s),
  3. impact of the technology on society/industry/local community etc.
